Vortex Technology is an exciting new concept from Norton that provides high metal removal with minimum heat generation.

High Metal Removal

Combining a new engineered abrasive grain and innovative manufacturing process, VORTEX. Technology carefully controls the structure to create a highly porous and permeable grinding tool with unsurpassed abrasive grain spacing. This brings all the advantages of much higher metal removal rates, improved form holding and longer wheel life alongside a greatly reduced risk of metallurgical damage.

Ultimate Burn Reduction

A complete revolution from classical porous wheel technologies as optimum 3D grain spacing is achieved without artificial pore inducers.

Large Areas of Contact

Excels in grinding applications when applied to vitrified products with large contact areas such as Creepfeed Grinding Gear and Surface Grinding and especially where difficult –to-grind materials such as nickel based alloys are used.

Long Wheel Life

Optimizing the abrasive and porosity distribution is critical for improving material removal and wheel wear in Creepfeed Grinding.

Reduced Cycle Times

Cycle reduction time of up to 50% together with 2 to 3 times the number of pieces ground per wheel, on difficult to grind and heat sensitive nickel based alloys

Markets

· Aerospace

· Automotive

· Tools

· Gears

·

Features

· High performance engineered fused alumina grain.

· Highly porous and permeable for maximizing coolant diffusion in the grinding zone.

· Optimum grain spacing for improved chip clearance and reduced friction from “spot contact”

· Safety index improved (compared to classical vitrified porous structures).

Benefits

· Very high metal removal rates giving dramatically reduced cycle times.

· Very long wheel life though dramatically reduced wheel dressing.

· Gentle on the dressing tool, very easy to profile.

· Ultimate degree of burn reduction though extreme permeable.

· Reduced residual stress after grinding.

· Longer life and faster grinding.
